Cantonal contact points
The Federal Act on Compulsory Measures and Placements prior to 1981 obliged the cantons to set up and operate cantonal contact points. The role of these contact points is to advise victims and others who have been affected and, in partnership with the cantonal archives, to help them to come to terms with their past. The persons concerned and their relatives may contact the cantonal contact point of their choice, although this will usually be that of the canton in which they live.
The contact points have the following role:
- To provide advice and support to those affected in the form of immediate or longer-term assistance within the meaning of the Victim Support Act (VSA)
- To work with the cantonal archives to support victims wishing to consult or search for documents in the archives
