
The five members of the Institute Council are responsible for the business management. They possess soundly based experience and knowledge of corporate management, research and development, the natural sciences and engineering.
The duties of the Institute Council are set out in the Institute Act.
The Institute Council defines the orientation of METAS within the framework of the strategic goals of the Federal Council. When determining the goals, the Institute Council is guided by these Federal Council guidelines. Here a major role is played by the research and development programme.

President since 1.1.2019, member since 2012. He holds a doctorate in computer science. From 2006 to 2015, he was Director of the IBM Research Laboratory in Zurich-Rüschlikon and Vice President of Global Systems Management and Compliance Area Strategy at IBM Research. Since 2015, he has been Managing Director of the Hasler Foundation.

Vice President since 16.03.2020, Member since 2018, attorney at law specializing in IT, Internet and telecommunications law. She was a lecturer for information security law at the ETH Zurich, the University of Berne and a member of various specialist and expert commissions and held management positions in various associations.

Member since 2020, head of the group "Lung and Thoracic Tumors" at the Clinic for Medical Oncology and Hematology of the University Hospital of Zurich. Since 2017 Faculty member of Immunology and Immunotherapy of the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO). Since 2012 member of various working groups of the Swiss Group for Clinical Cancer Research.

Member since 2020. Physicist, Dr. sc. nat. ETH/EMBA HSG. Was CEO of the COMET GROUP from 2017 to 2019, Flamatt. Previously, among other things, he worked for METTLER TOLEDO from 2004 to 2015 as Head of the Global Business Area Laboratory & Weighing Technologies.

Member since 2020. Head of the Land-climate dynamics group at the Institute for Atmosphere and Climate of the Department of Environmental Systems Sciences at ETH Zurich. Education in biology and atmospheric physics. Coordinating lead author for the 6th Assessment Report (2018-2021) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Member of the ETH Global advisory board since 2017.

Microtechnology engineer with further education in business administration. Worked as a development engineer, project manager and later supply chain manager in the medical technology and pharmaceutical industries. 2010 responsible for the operational business (Chief Operating Officer) of the company mb-microtec AG in Niederwangen (BE), a worldwide known company for the development, manufacturing and production of micro components. Since 2014 he leads this company as Managing Director (CEO).
