New Head of the Physics Department at METAS

Towards the end of last year, the Institute Council elected Dr. Fabiano Assi as the new Head of the Physics Department at the Federal Institute of Metrology METAS. Since 1 January 2023, he has headed one of three departments at METAS, with 76 employees.

Dr. Fabiano Assi has been the new Head of the Physics Department at the Federal Institute of Metrology METAS since 1 January 2023. He is in charge of the three areas “Electricity”, “Length, optics and time” and “Mechanical quantities and ionising radiation”. Assi, who holds a doctorate in technical sciences, led the area “Verification and testing” at METAS from 2018 until the end of 2022 and has been an interim member of the Executive Board for the past months.

Fabiano Assi started his career in 2000 as a postdoc at Harvard University, Boston, and ETH Zurich. Among other things, he worked for twelve years in various management positions in the areas of R&D and innovation in the solar and semiconductor sectors. “I am delighted that the transition phase is completed and that Fabiano Assi has prevailed in the externally conducted assessment and the various demanding recruiting steps,” says Dr. Philippe Richard, Director at METAS. The Institute Council and the members of the Executive Board sincerely congratulate Fabiano Assi on his new assignment and look forward to working with him.
