Annual Tripartite Consultations on Resettlement

Since 1995, representatives of governments and non-governmental organisations, international stakeholders and refugees have been meeting at the Annual Tripartite Consultations on Resettlement (ATCR) under the auspices of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

The aim of the ATCR is to discuss political-strategic policies and to coordinate resources internationally in the field of resettlement.

From June 2020 to June 2021, Switzerland chaired the ATCR for the first time. The tripartite chair was held by the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration (SEM), the Swiss Refugee Council (SRC) and UNHCR. For the first time, the chair was also accompanied by the Refugee Steering Group (RSG), a committee composed of persons with lived refugee experience.

The theme of the year ‘Strengthening capacities to promote opportunities for refugees in unprecedented times’ allowed to discuss the diverse challenges in the area of resettlement, with a particular focus on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on resettlement programs.

On 28 June 2021, the United States of America assumed the ATCR chair.
