Initial allocation of asylum seekers to asylum regions

Once an asylum seeker has registered at a federal asylum centre with processing facilities, a decision is made as to whether their asylum procedure will be conducted there or at another federal centre. Asylum seekers from the same country of origin are evenly distributed among the asylum regions. The same applies to unaccompanied asylum-seeking children, families and persons with health problems. The available capacity in the federal asylum centres is taken into account.

At the federal asylum centre with processing facilities, preliminary clarifications are carried out in a preparatory phase, after which SEM decides which of the procedures shall be applied: the Dublin Procedure, accelerated procedure or extended procedure.
